Updates on the last few days

The baseball card show was a blast. On sunday, I went again by myself, and got autographed balls of Boggs, Mattingly, Feller, & Thomas as well as an autographed plaque of Clemens. I bought about 4,000 or so stars as well. Over all, it was $530 including parking and admission. Great buys and i should be able to make some money out of them while having some fun. I sorted them today by player ... lots of goodies :)

Health / working out wise, I haven't felt as ... athletic recently. I haven't been doing much, though I have been on hydroxycut. It tastes great and the caffeine kick gives me energy. I don't like the fact that I'm on caffeine, but being awake is wonderful ... especially for only 5 calories :) I lifted weights with David tonight, and did some situps aftewards. Also did some of his eliptical while waiting for him to finish up. Makes me feel so much better to be lifting when I come home instead of laying on the couch.

Today for work was nutso. It was just go-go-go. I have really been considering investing myself into finding big projects. It zaps me when I have so much busy work, I take a whole day away from actually focusing on building the business. Even possibly investing the profits from baseball cards into the business in terms of advertising. I think that might make things "fun" again. It may make it a game.

Wow, lame post. Oh well.

I won an award!

Thanks to my friend at http://kristincreative.blogspot.com/ - how nice of her - thank ya much!!! I couldn't have gotten this award without you. Mainly because ... well ... you gave it to me :)

Ok, so here is the wrap up of what is going on:

- Work - I have gotten several quote requests, but nothing has landed yet. Several updates I have worked on though (wow, that sounded like yoda, didn't it?). I have been struggling a bit with motivation and a bit of anxiety because of no large projects coming in. I am always like this I guess when things get low, but I pray the Lord will "flood" us again soon. He has always been so wonderful for us with work. I hope He continues. One of the benefits of being a spendthrift without debt, and having a hobby that makes money is that I don't *need* to stress out nearly as much as I would have a few years ago. I can hear Holly in the back of my head quoting a Bible verse (who of you by worrying can add a single day to your life...)

I have done something small each day to reach out to people or others for projects. What I *should* be doing is spend my entire work day doing those sorts of things. It just gets difficult to stay on track!

- Hobby - I bought a little collection of baseball cards from a "kid" that had several Griffey rookies, some sets and 100 game used cards. I say kid because he lived with his folks, but turns out he was 24 - he looked 18! I have so far sold the game used, so am now only in the hole for $50, which should be pretty easy to make back and then some, while keeping all the cards i want. I am still going through 150k cards I have here and pulling the treasures. It is a sight to behold: My office desks are LOADED with stars and rookies. Can't wait to see how much I pull out of the remaining 5.5 million I have coming!

The baseball card show is in town this weekend, finally. It has been a long year! My son and I go each year for a few hours and then have a hot dog & orange soda. It is a special time for us. I remember a dad with his kid saying to me "wow, this would be fun if I didn't have to bring HIM along". And I was thinking what is wrong with you???? Having your son with you is the best!!!! It looks like we will be skipping church this time to go though so we can get in the best deals!

Last year I got 5 Pete Rose autographed bats, a few hundred autographed cards, and close to 100 game used cards. It was fun, and I was able to make some good money throughout the year with them. My dealer friend said the best time to go is sunday because that is when the best deals come in. Friday has the best selection though, and if I were a true "collector", I would go then, but I'm not looking for the best selection - I'm looking for the best deals. Time to buy out some folks!

Fitness: My knee still hurts, but I ran a few miles last night, and have been going to my friend's house to lift weights a few times a week. I skipped one time last week though, thanks to a left bicept that was hurting pretty badly.

Family: We have been having a blast playing board games recently ... more specifically Bibleopoly. Boy, I have never felt like a Ned Flanders as much before in my life! Bibleopoly ... seriously? Anyway, Holly says I get creepy because I get into it a little too much. That is who I am though ... I am a monopoly freak. I aim to DOMINATE!!! Whether it be my wife or children :)

And now for a little video enjoyment. I laugh so hard, I cry when I see this. Holly thinks its stupid. What do you think?

Week-End Wrap Up

I haven't run much - just 2 miles the other night for the week, but that is because my knee has been really hurting me. I have been going over to my friend's house to lift weights though - twice this week. I'm feeling good about that! I do hope my knee gets better soon though. I want to start running a lot again!

The first week back working has been pretty busy between updates, quote requests, writing proposals, etc. I have a large proposal out, and am hoping to land this, as well as a few other smaller ones. In a perfect world, I guess I would be landing everything - and the projects would be a breeze, but that just isn't how it works, is it? I am amazed how absolutely super fast a busy work week goes. The days fly bye, unlike last month when it was slow and I was just perpetually going to drudgereport.com craigslist.com msn.com etc.

Over the past few years, I have been reading a chapter of the Bible each day before work. So far, I have gone through all the new testament and a good portion of the old testament. I am now in 1 Samuel. Judges and Ruth, the last few books were *VERY* interesting. I'm sure I've read most of this already, but a lot of it I did not remember. Very crazy stuff. Holly and I are also staying on the track of doing our devotionals together at night which is great. We have just spent each night for the past few years praying at night together. The devotional is great! I highly encourage anyone who is married to do this as well.

In the world of "fun" things, I have been able to sell a couple of "sports card collections" for good prices. I found a good collection to buy, but since it was football and basketball, I gave the lead to my dealer friend. That sparked up a conversation about doing an even bigger deal with more of his cards. He mentioned after our deal, he could have 1-2 million more cards! I hope to do a deal with him for not only those cards, but also to get the cards before he even searches through them! How wonderful would that be?

On another note - I have been opening some wax boxes I had. I busted an 86 Donruss box and got THREE Canseco rated rookies in one box. The second box, I got another Canseco. Great fun, and it got me out of my funk I was in for the day.

Now, it is the weekend - my son sounds like he is coughing up a lung and he has karate tomorrow. We'll see how that goes!

Twas the night before worky...

What can I say? We made it! We made it through the holidays, though, knock on wood - it isn't until Wednesday until our daughter goes back to school. Speaking of which, she turns 8 on tuesday. My how time flies. It seems like we have only had her for 2 1/2 years. Oh wait, that is because we have! Yes, we made it *relatively* unscathed, but our dear daughter decided to explode on us tonight. We knew it was coming at some point. Oh well - we take life as it comes, I guess.

I am super happy about getting excited about starting up working ON my business again, and bringing in more work. As a matter of fact, I have a quote request for a small job sitting in my email box as I type this. Videos are being uploaded for a client right now so my programmer can add them into the website. things seem to be going fine. For the last few weeks, I have been worried about how to take monday. How would I deal with all kinds of requests for fixes, etc? Would it break me? Would it stress me out? No, I think I will be just fine. And attitude is 90% of the battle, so I am in good standing!

These past several days have been great. I sold a jersey, several sets, lots of wax boxes, some old cards, etc. The sales put me in the black for all 3 of my recent collection purchases, so I have jerseys and wax boxes left over, plus money. I don't know why, but it really makes me happy. Oh, not to mention the fact that someone out of the blue just emailed me asking me to sell him some football cards. Which, now I have some to sell thanks to santa claus (the nickname i gave my dealer friend). At 8am on saturday morning, he brought over about 90,000 sports cards as I was having someone come over at 10am to trade them for a PS3, 3 blueray dvds and $50. I was likely gonna sell it, but man let me tell ya! It is a VERY slick piece of hardware! I really am digging it. Heck, it even helped me to transfer my client's videos from cd to usb hard drive. I think I'll keep it around for a while.

As a way to ring in the new year on the night of the 1st, I ran 6 miles. That always makes me feel good about myself. I don't like going out to do it, and don't like doing it (except for sometimes ... at some points during running, I get some sort of enjoyment out of it) but I do feel good after.

That night, Holly and I started doing a devotional together. We would pray at night together each night, but not go through the Word together. That is nice that we are doing that now.
